Balloon Fiesta Event Safety

Overview

The Balloon Fiesta Event Safety Team coordinates a multi-agency presence at Balloon Fiesta Park.
More than 20 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, first responders, and government entities collaborate to ensure the event remains safe for pilots, guests, volunteers, and staff.

Since 1991, and in recognition of the event’s international profile, Balloon Fiesta Event Safety Officers (BESOs) have worked alongside law enforcement and emergency responders.
For 2025, over 150 safety officers will be deployed throughout the park to maintain a secure environment. Officers will be visible across all public entrances and throughout the venue, including media entry points.

Security Screening at Entrances

Each of the eight public entrances will feature:

  • 6–8 security lanes with metal detectors

  • Clearly marked “Bag Check” and “Express” lanes

  • BESO staff and security officers conducting inspections

Best Practices for Guests:

  • Metal detectors are used at every public entrance.

  • All bags and coolers will be inspected before entry.

  • Guests without bags move through faster.

  • Bring only essential items and, if possible, use clear bags.

  • Parents should visit the New Mexico State Police “Tag-Your-Tots” station (north of the Main Stage) upon arrival.

  • If separated, have a reunification plan in place.

  • Report any unsafe or suspicious activity immediately to a Public Safety Officer, Launch Director (Zebra), or Balloon Fiesta official.

To maintain a safe environment, the following items are not allowed inside Balloon Fiesta Park:

  • Concealed-carry weapons

  • Bicycles

  • Spike jewelry or wallet chains

  • Alcohol or drugs

  • Animals (except verified service animals)
